New Hotels Emerge on LA’s Horizon

New hotels and those undergoing significant renovations or expansions are poised to entice visitors to Los Angeles and its surrounding areas. Los Angeles is also a preferred destination for conventions, conferences and special events because of its year-round mild weather and access to world-class entertainment. DOWNTOWN

Doubletree by Hilton Los Angeles Downtown (formerly the Kyoto Grand Hotel and Gardens) — The Doubletree by Hilton Los Angeles Downtown, formerly known as the Kyoto Grand Hotel and Gardens, opened in July 2012.  With its opening, the property debuts its refreshed Japanese-inspired rooftop garden, the hotel’s signature outdoor event and meeting space. The DoubleTree by Hilton Los Angeles Downtown’s renovation includes significant design and service upgrades to the hotel’s 434 guestrooms and suites, public spaces and corridors, indoor and outdoor meeting and event spaces, business and fitness centers, and its legendary half-acre rooftop Japanese-style gardens. The hotel also features 15,000 square feet of flexible conference space, including the largest meeting room at 4,212 sq. ft., which can accommodate up to 650 guests. JW Marriott Hotel Los Angeles at L.A. LIVE — The JW Marriott Hotel Los Angeles at L.A. LIVE opened in February 2010 as part of the $2.5-billion sports and entertainment complex developed by AEG. It was awarded the Silver LEED certification this year from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The hotel has 878 guest rooms, including 52 well-appointed suites, along with a 4,000-square-foot JW Marriott fitness center, located on the second floor, an outdoor pool and bar, and a spa with nine treatment rooms. The hotel’s LA Market Restaurant by Kerry Simon features modern American cooking with a California flair. The Gallery Collection features more than 77,000 square feet of indoor meeting space, including three floors of stacked ballrooms. With its central location in Los Angeles’ burgeoning Downtown district, the hotel provides a deluxe level of comfort and personal service within a unique environment designed to reflect its location. The L.A. Hotel — The former Marriott Los Angeles Downtown has been renamed The L.A. Hotel and will undergo a $20-million renovation. The hotel will remain open for guests during renovation, says Shenzhen New World Group, the China-based company that owns the hotel. The completion date is expected to be spring 2013. Renovations will bring an all-new modern look to the hotel, including elegant and contemporary design and service upgrades to each of its 400 guest rooms and 69 suites, public spaces and corridors, meeting and event areas, business and fitness centers, restaurants and grand lobby. The minimalistic design will be reflected in the new carpeting, lighting, wall treatments, and furniture. Each guest room and suite will be redone to include a cheerful array of yellows, whites, reds and oranges. The more than 25,000-square-feet of meeting and event space, including its 23 versatile meeting rooms, two ballrooms, and nearly 4,000-square-feet of pre-function space, will receive exquisite new design upgrades as well as new floor plans. Luxe City Center Hotel — Located in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, the Luxe City Center Hotel has recently undergone renovations to all of its guestrooms, and completed renovations of its restaurant and bar at the end of July 2012. The former Holiday Inn Los the Luxe City Center Hotel in fall 2010. Part of an upscale, Los Angeles-based hotel chain, the newly branded property is a four-star-design-driven boutique hotel with 162 guest rooms and 16 suites in the heart of Downtown’s thriving entertainment district. Residence Inn and Courtyard by Marriott — In June 2012, developers broke ground on the $172-million, 373,000-square-foot hotel project in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles.  The new hotel development -- comprising a 23-story high-rise housing a 174-room Courtyard by Marriott and a 218-room Residence Inn by Marriott, including 11,754 square feet of meeting facilities and 5,100 square feet of restaurant space -- is slated to open in summer 2014.  The hotels represent the first dual construction of a Residence Inn and Courtyard by Marriott on the West Coast. The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles — The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles opened in April 2010 as the cornerstone of L.A. LIVE, the $2.5-billion sports and entertainment complex adjacent to STAPLES Center and the Los Angeles Convention Center. The property has 123 well-appointed guestrooms, including 14 suites. On the 26th floor, an outdoor, rooftop swimming pool and terrace offer guests a relaxing retreat from the city below. Poolside cabanas, new in summer 2011, have concierge service, seating for six, televisions, Internet access and complimentary fresh fruit.  The property also features a 3,400-square-foot signature Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge, which also serves as the 23rd floor check-in area for guests. The Gallery Collection offers more than 77,000 square feet of ballroom and meeting room space. The hotel is home to WP24, a restaurant concept by celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck. Hilton Garden Inn Los Angeles/Hollywood (formerly Hollywood Heights Hotel) — In March 2012, the former Hollywood Heights Hotel joined the Hilton Worldwide Portfolio of Brands as Hilton Garden Inn Los Angeles/Hollwood. The 160-room property is a sophisticated, mid-range hotel at the gateway to Hollywood. The hotel features the Hilton Garden Inn Serta Perfect Sleeper as well as both wired and WiFi Internet access in guestrooms and public spaces. The hotel also features an ergonomic Mirra desk chair by Herman Miller; a spacious and clutter-free work desk; and two speaker telephones equipped with data ports and voice mail. Guests will also benefit from the complimentary 24-hour business center, featuring Print SpotsTM remote printing which allows wireless printing from any laptop or PDA. Loews Hollywood Hotel (formerly Renaissance Hollywood Hotel & Spa) -- Loews Hotels & Resorts purchased the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel in June 2012. The hotel, now known as the Loews Hollywood Hotel, features 632 guestrooms, including 32 suites.  The property also features over 48,000-square-feet of meeting space. The property will remain open while undergoing a $26 million renovation beginning later this year. A cultural landmark, the hotel opened in 2001 and established itself as the premier location in the movie-making capital of the world. Set with spectacular views of the world-famous Hollywood sign and along the renowned Walk of Fame, the hotel rises 20 stories above the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue. The hotel's most defining features – the spa, pool terrace, restaurant and event space – will be enhanced and renovated. The Redbury @ Hollywood and Vine — The latest addition to the award-winning sbe Hotel Collection, the Redbury is situated at the City’s most well-known intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street. Hotel Bel-Air — Dorchester Collection’s Hotel Bel-Air reopened Oct. 14, 2011, after 24 months of extensive refurbishment and redesign — a collaborative restoration effort between the internationally renowned design teams of Alexandra Champalimaud and Rockwell Group. Great care was taken to retain the familiar Spanish Colonial architecture splashed in “Bel-Air pink,” while a new generation of Bel-Air aesthetic is reflected through design themes representing the glamorous eras of the 1930s, ’40s and ’50s. Hotel Amarano Burbank — Formerly The Graciela, the Hotel Amarano is the only luxury boutique hotel in Burbank. Located in the heart of the entertainment district, just around the corner from Warner Bros. Studios and minutes from Universal Studios and NBC Studios, the hotel has 100 rooms and suites, all with full kitchenettes. Hotel Amarano completed renovations designed by Rossi Architecture Inc. in April 2012. The renovation included 32 additional rooms, a swimming pool, cabanas and fitness center. Shore Hotel — A new, beachside retreat opened in 2011: the Shore Hotel in Santa Monica. On the site of the former Pacific Sands and Travelodge, this boutique hotel stands out with its modern design and location across the street from the Santa Monica Pier and beach. The open-air, U-shaped hotel features a glass-walled lobby looking out at the ocean. The 164 teal and orange rooms have teakwood furniture and balconies.
