LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Dec. 5, 2013) — Los Angeles’ most iconic landmarks are set to be re-imagined in a colorful display of flowers and natural materials on a float built to replicate some of the city’s most popular attractions for the 125th Rose Parade® presented by Honda on Jan. 1, 2014.

Created by the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board (LA Tourism), the “Endless Entertainment” themed float takes its cues from the Tournament’s overall theme “Making Dreams Come True,” and marks LA Tourism’s 116th consecutive year collaborating with the City of LA and the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association, making it the longest running float entry.

“With a record 42 million visitors to Los Angeles anticipated this year, the city is a dream destination for people from around the world,” said Ernest Wooden Jr., LA Tourism President and CEO.  “Los Angeles is a mecca of endless entertainment options with truly something for everyone.”

Designed by Pasadena-based Phoenix Decorating Company, the float builders used artistic interpretation to bring the best of L.A. to life.  Composed of over 12,000 orchids, daisies and roses, the float depicts the glitz and glam of Hollywood complete with the golden stars that line the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a towering re-creation of Tinseltown’s TCL Chinese Theatre and swaying palm trees, all topped off by Universal Studios Hollywood’s™ world-famous Globe Fountain.

At the center of the float are some of L.A.’s most well-known ethnic enclaves, including Olvera Street, Chinatown and Watts.  Perched on one of three pillars, that range from 16 to 28 feet tall, is a giant replica of the eclectic arts monument Watts Towers, whimsically wrapped by a steam-breathing, Chinese dragon, while colorfully-adorned folklóricas are positioned below.

Los Angeles’ famed sports teams, including the Lakers and world-class arts and culture institutions represented by the Walt Disney Concert Hall and Griffith Observatory are also featured on the float.  A soaring Space Shuttle Endeavour, which makes its home at the California Science Center, takes flight at the front of the float, rounding out this vibrant, entertainment-filled scene.

The most popular New Year’s Day celebration in the world, the 125th Annual Rose Parade will feature nearly one million spectators lining the streets of Pasadena to watch lavish floral floats and spectacular marching bands.

No tax dollars were used in the creation or production of the City of Los Angeles float.
