Los Angeles Hotels Roll Out the 'Green' Carpet to Car-Free Guests

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Sept. 19, 2013) – This fall, Los Angeles is putting the brakes on its car-centric roots.   The new Car Free LA program from the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board (LA Tourism) offers a variety of free itineraries centered around exploring Los Angeles’ various neighborhoods and attractions on foot, bike or Metro.  In conjunction with World Car Free Day, a movement celebrated worldwide on Sept. 22 to create awareness of alternative transportation methods, Car Free LA now extends to offer hotel deals and perks for car-free travelers.

Car Free LA gives travelers the tools they need to navigate Los Angeles’ distinct neighborhoods without relying on a car.  From taking the Angel’s Flight Railway to the top of Bunker Hill, then setting out on foot to explore MOCA, the Walt Disney Concert Hall and Grand Park, to rocking out through LA landmarks rooted in musical history or trekking through the LGBT history of Los Angeles, these self-guided itineraries allow visitors to save money on gas, while discovering a side of Los Angeles that might be overlooked from behind the wheel.

Just in time for LA’s idyllic fall weather, the Mondrian Los Angeles, Shore Hotel, Hotel Palomar Los Angeles – Westwood, Hotel Wilshire, and Andaz West Hollywood are offering travel packages inspired by Car Free LA.  Incentives for visiting Los Angeles car-free include a movie star home bike tour, complimentary valet parking and customized pedometers to track sightseeing steps.
