DISCOVER LOS ANGELES AND BREEDERS’ CUP SHOWCASE LOCAL ARTISTS’ TALENTS IN POP-UP ART EXHIBIT FOUND THROUGHOUT THE CITY

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (October 12, 2016) – In celebration of the 33rd Breeders’ Cup World Championships, Discover Los Angeles, the official tourism marketing organization for Los Angeles, partnered with Breeders’ Cup to host a month-long pop-up called, ‘The Best is Yet to Come Horse Art Exhibition.’ Discover Los Angeles commissioned Crewest Studio and five local street artists to decorate life-sized horse statues reflecting their own interpretation of the Breeders’ Cup brand and of Los Angeles’s thriving culture to get visitors excited about the main event.

The horse displays include a Snapchat promotion, where fans and visitors are able to Snap a photo with one of the horses to discoverLASnaps on Snapchat for a chance to win a pair of tickets to the Breeders’ Cup taking place at Santa Anita Race Track on both November 4 & 5, 2016. Winners will be notified on Monday, October 24 via Snapchat message.

“The Breeders’ Cup is one of the biggest draws for visitors to L.A. this fall,” said Don Skeoch, chief marketing officer of Discover Los Angeles. “We anticipate welcoming nearly 100,000 horse racing enthusiasts to Los Angeles for this event alone and this pop-up exhibition is a wonderful way to showcase the talents of our local artist community. We are thrilled to be a part of the excitement around the Breeders’ Cup.”

The participating artists reflect the best of Los Angeles’s diverse art community, including Man One, a graffiti artist and founder of Los Angeles’s Crewest Gallery; Andre Miripolsky, a renowned muralist and transplant to Los Angeles by way of Paris; Yolanda Gonzalez, who studied at the Pasadena Art Center College of Design; Clinton Bopp, a New Zealand-born artist who works primarily in acrylic, spray paint, and oils; and Michael Massenburg, whose previous public art collaborations include projects with ESPN, the American Jazz Museum and MTA Metro, among others.

“Los Angeles is home to an incredibly rich and thriving artist community, and we are thrilled to work with this talented group of artists to build excitement ahead of the Breeders’ Cup,” said Craig Fravel, CEO of Breeders’ Cup. “We are always looking for interesting ways to engage the local community, and this pop-up art exhibition embodies the heart and soul of the city in a very authentic way.”

The five horses standing six-feet tall are displayed at high-traffic destinations throughout the city till the end of October, including:

  • Clinton Bopp’s “Stardust” at Westfield Santa Anita
  • Yolanda Gonzalez’s “Beauty at The Races” at Westfield Fashion Square
  • Andre Miripolsky’s “Prickles” at the Bank of America Plaza, Outside Atrium
  • Man One’s “Pony Up” at Pershing Square, Downtown Los Angeles
  • Michael Massenburg’s “Racing with Time” at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center, Griffith Park
