The Resonance Report: Los Angeles is #1 Destination in U.S.

The accolades continue for Los Angeles. In late July, a new international report named the City of Angels the #1 Tourism Destination in the U.S.

The report considered destinations from both a business and a leisure perspective, looking at specific infrastructure criteria that drive demand for each segment (direct air service, number of hotel rooms, convention center space, Fortune 500 headquarters, attractions, sports teams, dining and shopping options), along with user-generated reviews on sites like Trip Advisor and Yelp and destination news and buzz.

L.A. was singled out for:

•3 years of record-breaking visitation and visitor spending

•Exciting new hotel development

•Trend-setting airport design at LAX

•Burgeoning international travel, particularly from China supported by L.A. Tourism’s innovative international visitor experience program called Nihao China

•The top shopping experience in the country

Other destinations on the top 10 list include (in order):  New York City, Dallas/Ft Worth, Chicago, San Francisco, Las Vegas, San Diego, Denver, Philadelphia, and Miami.

The study was conducted by Resonance, a Vancouver-based consulting firm that creates marketing strategies, development plans, and brands for destinations and development worldwide.

Earlier this year, Los Angeles was named the World’s Most Powerful Destination Brand by Saffron Brand Consultants in conjunction with The Guardian, a global media outlet headquartered in the UK.

What’s Your L.A. Story? Hotel Promotion – Drives 106,000 Room Nights

In order to enhance the “What’s Your L.A. Story?” brand campaign, the LATCB Marketing team partnered with top OTA’s including Expedia and Orbitz to further drive visitation and room nights with special room rate offers and incentives from March 16 - June 30, 2014.  The promotion included up to 30% off room rates and special Orbitz rewards points that encouraged visitors to book in LA hotel properties. The promotion lived on a variety of OTA’s through the Expedia and Orbitz network around the globe including eLong in China, eBookers in the UK and Hello World in Australia. Digital ads ran across multiple sites and garnered over 50 million media impressions over the four month effort. The promotion ended with some amazing results – over 106,000 room nights booked!
