The World's Largest Vinyl Record at The Forum

In its heyday, The Forum was one of the premier event venues in the country, home to the “Showtime” era Lakers, the Kings during the Wayne Gretzky years, and countless memorable concerts. Affectionately known as the “Fabulous” Forum by Angelenos, The Forum is emerging from a multi-million dollar renovation with a Grand Re-Opening concert by The Eagles on Jan. 15, 2014. The sold-out performance is the first of six concerts by the celebrated band. The Forum’s opening concert calendar also includes Justin Timberlake, Imagine Dragons, and “On Stage Together,” featuring Paul Simon and Sting.

The Forum revitalization is inspired by the venue's original 1967 design, and includes upgrades throughout the site. A key feature is The Forum’s exterior color, which has been repainted to its original 1960s "California Sunset Red." As part of its modernization, The Forum is featuring menu items from LA favorites such as Pink’s, Malibu Family Wines, Cole’s French Dip, La Brea Bakery, Coolhaus, and more.

To celebrate its re-opening, The Forum has installed the world’s largest vinyl record on its roof, a gigantic replica of The Eagles’ classic album, Hotel California. Arriving LAX passengers will see the record spin on top of The Forum through the end of January 2014. Following are a few of the incredible numbers associated with the record-breaking record:

  • 250,000 square feet of printed vinyl (5.7 acres, or nearly 4.5 football fields)
  • 50,000 pounds (25 tons) of materials
  • 20,000 man hours to design and build
  • 15,000 LEDs
  • 407 feet in diameter
  • Spins at 17 mph
  • Visible from over one mile above
