Fall has arrived, but that doesn’t mean Los Angeles-area hotel development activity is cooling off any time soon. Visionary developers continue to build out properties ranging from grand Downtown L.A. hotels in stately century-old buildings, to sun-splashed South Bay resorts to modern Sunset Strip properties.

HOTEL FIGUEROA
First built as a women's hostel in 1926, Downtown L.A.’s Hotel Figueroa is reopened in February 2018 after a $55-million renovation. The 268-room hotel features six bars and restaurants, including the Mediterranean inspired Breva, casual poolside dining at Veranda, and the two-story Rick's across the pool from the hotel tower. NOMAD HOTEL
Sydell Group, which opened The Line Hotel in Koreatown in 2014, opened the Los Angeles outpost of New York’s NoMad Hotel in January 2018. The NoMad is redeveloped out of Downtown L.A.’s Giannini Place, which was built in 1923 as the headquarters for Bank of Italy (which became Bank of America). MAYFAIR HOTEL
Downtown L.A.’s Mayfair Hotel, which was the tallest building west of the Mississippi River when it opened in 1926, reopened in July 2018 after a renovation of the property’s lobby, restaurant, lounges and guestrooms. The 294-room hotel’s pool will open later this year. Book Now →
WESTDRIFT MANHATTAN BEACH
The westdrift Manhattan Beach opened in March 2018 as the first Autograph Collection hotel in Los Angeles. The 26-acre resort boasts 392 luxury guest rooms, a 9-hole golf course, a signature indoor / outdoor restaurant, a CrossFit-inspired fitness center and more than 35,000 square feet of indoor-outdoor space, including 18 meeting rooms, a traditional ballroom and three large, industrial-chic venues. InterContinental Hotels Group’s (IHG) Kimpton boutique-hotel unit opened La Peer in West Hollywood in January 2018. The 105-room hotel is located in the city’s design district and features a roof deck. Book Now →

H HOTEL/HOMEWOOD SUITES
A dual-branded property under Hilton’s Curio Collection and Homewood Suites badges opened in October 2017 at the site of a former office building near LAX. KIMPTON EVERLY HOTEL
InterContinental Hotels Group’s (IHG) Kimpton boutique hotel division made its Hollywood debut in August 2017 with The Everly. The 216-room hotel features a fifth-floor pool deck with views to the Pacific Ocean as well as the street-level Jane Q restaurant and the Ever Bar. Book Now →
THE JEREMY/1 HOTEL
Starwood Capital opened The Jeremy West Hollywood in August 2017 as part of the Sunset La Cienega mixed-use project. The 286-room hotel, which was previously earmarked to be operated under Denihan Hospitality’s James brand, will be transformed into a 1 Hotels eco-luxe property for Spring 2019. Book Now →
THE FREEHAND
Sydell Group introduced its Freehand hotel/hostel brand to Downtown L.A. in June 2017. The Freehand, which has properties in Miami Beach, Chicago and New York, features private rooms as well as hostel accommodations. The Freehand is located at the site of the historic Commercial Exchange Building at 8th and Olive Streets. Hotels Coming Soon
DOWNTOWN L.A. PROPER
Proper Hotels, the new brand headed by former Viceroy Hotels chief Brad Korzen, is slated debut its Downtown L.A. hotel at the site of the former Case Hotel by the end of 2018. The 13-story property, which was built in 1924, will have 151 rooms as well as a rooftop that includes a restaurant, bar and pool.
Korzen will open a second Southern California property under the Proper Hotels brand in Santa Monica in early 2019. The 271-room hotel will be developed out of a historic 1928 structure and an adjacent new building at Wilshire Boulevard and 7th Street.
AC HOTEL BEVERLY HILLS
The AC Hotels by Marriott brand will make its Los Angeles debut in September 2018 with the AC Hotel Beverly Hills. Located in the historic Miracle Mile district, the hotel is being redeveloped out of a 1950s-era office building and will have 176 rooms.
THE BRICKS
The Bricks is a 200-room hotel that will be part of Wyndham Hotels’ recently launched Trademark Collection of independently operated hotels when it opens by early 2019. Located two blocks from STAPLES Center, the property will include 10,000 square feet of meeting space as well as a ground-floor restaurant.
THE HOXTON HOTEL
London-based chainlet the Hoxton will come to Los Angeles in early 2019 with the redevelopment of the old Los Angeles Railway Building in Downtown. The Broadway site will be redeveloped into 164 and will also have a spa, restaurant and lounge.
HAMPTON INN & SUITES KOREATOWN
Hilton will bring its Hampton Inn & Suites brand to Koreatown in November 2019 with a 172-room hotel.
GODFREY
The Godfrey Hotel lifestyle chainlet, which has properties in Chicago and Los Angeles, will open a property on Hollywood’s Cahuenga Corridor near Sunset Boulevard in June 2019. The hotel will have 180 rooms.
WEST HOLLYWOOD EDITION
The first U.S. West Coast property under Marriott International and Ian Schrager’s Edition lifestyle brand will open on the famed Sunset Strip in West Hollywood by June 2019. Developed by the Witkoff Group and New Valley, the hotel will have 190 rooms and as many as 20 luxury condominiums. The hotel will boast two rooftop pools.
FAIRMONT CENTURY PLAZA
AccorHotels’ Fairmont badge will take over the landmark Century Plaza hotel in Century City when the property is redeveloped. Scheduled to open in September 2019, the Fairmont Century Plaza will have 394 rooms and 63 luxury residences, down from the hotel’s 726 rooms when it shuttered in 2016. The project will also have 290 luxury residences in the project’s two new 46-story towers.
THOMPSON HOLLYWOOD
Two Roads Hospitality’s Thompson lifestyle brand, which previously operated the Hollywood Roosevelt, will return to the area in late 2019 with a new-build property on Wilcox Avenue between Hollywood and Sunset Boulevards. The 200-room hotel, to be built by Dream Hollywood developer Relevant Group, will have a rooftop deck with a pool.
PARK HYATT/OCEANWIDE PLAZA
Oceanwide Plaza, the mixed-use project that will be built adjacent to STAPLES Center and L.A. LIVE, will include L.A.'s first hotel under the Park Hyatt luxury badge. Slated to open in March 2020, the Park Hyatt Los Angeles will have 184 rooms, including 34 suites.
HYATT CENTRIC
Hyatt’s Hyatt Centric lifestyle brand, which made its Southern California debut in Long Beach in 2016, will enter the city of Los Angeles with a Koreatown property in 2020. The 6th Street project will have 190 rooms as well as Hyatt Centric-branded residences.
TOMMIE HOTEL
Two Roads Hospitality’s Tommie, an offshoot of Thompson Hotels that specializes in micro-suites, has plans to enter Los Angeles with a hotel near Hollywood’s Cahuenga Corridor. The 175-room property is scheduled to debut in early 2020.
THE POD
The New York-based micro-suite specialist will enter Los Angeles with the redevelopment of the old Hotel Cecil site, which houses the Stay on Main budget property as well as about 300 residential units. The new hotel will have 340 rooms when it opens in mid-2020.
SUNSET TIME/PENDRY WEST HOLLYWOOD
Pendry, the Montage Hotels & Resorts offshoot brand that debuted in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter in February 2017, will make its Los Angeles-area entry in December 2019 when the modern-luxury hotel is built as part of the Sunset Time mixed-use project slated for the Sunset Strip site formerly occupied by House of Blues. The Pendry West Hollywood will have 149 rooms, while the project will also include 40 luxury condominiums.
STRAND & PIER
Hermosa Beach will add a 111-room hotel across the Strand from the beach in December 2019. Strand & Pier will be operated by Portland, Oregon-based boutique-hotel specialist Provenance Hotels and will have a rooftop pool and as many as five restaurants.
W LOS ANGELES DOWNTOWN
Downtown L.A.’s first hotel under Starwood Hotels & Resorts’ W lifestyle brand will be part of a $700-million-project to be built by China-based Shenzhen Hazens at 11th and Figueroa Streets, across the street from L.A. LIVE and STAPLES Center. Slated to open in September 2021, the W Los Angeles Downtown will have 300 rooms and about 15,000 square feet of meeting space.
FIG + PICO
The Fig + Pico Conference Center multi-hotel project in Downtown Los Angeles is slated to include L.A.'s first hotel under Marriott International’s Moxy brand when it opens in 2022. The project’s three hotels, which will also include an AC Hotel and a Hilton Garden Inn, will total almost 1,200 rooms.
