The LA Galaxy will play for the fourth Major League Soccer Cup title in club history and their second straight championship on Saturday, December 1st when they host the Houston Dynamo in MLS Cup 2012 at The Home Depot Center. The game is scheduled to kick off at 1:30 p.m. (PT) and will be shown live nationally on ESPN and TeleFutura. The Home Depot Center is hosting the MLS Cup for a record fifth time in League history. MLS fans from around the world will experience the championship match at a facility that has been called “the cathedral of U.S. soccer.”

Since opening its doors in 2003, the Home Depot Center has served as the home of the three-time MLS Cup champion LA Galaxy. Designated as an Official U.S. Olympic Training Site, this facility is also home to Chivas USA and the National Training Center for the United States Soccer Federation’s (USSF) Men’s and Women’s National Teams. In addition to MLS Cups, the stadium has hosted numerous memorable soccer matches, including the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup Championship game, the 2003 MLS All-Star Game, and CONCACAF Men’s and Women’s Gold Cup matches.

In November, LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham announced that MLS Cup 2012 will be his final competitive game with the club. Originally signed in January 2007, Beckham has spent the past six seasons with the Galaxy, helping lead the club to three MLS Cup appearances, including the third championship in club history when they beat the Houston Dynamo in 2011 at The Home Depot Center, in front of a then-stadium record of more than 30,000 fans.

"I've had an incredibly special time playing for the LA Galaxy, however, I wanted to experience one last challenge before the end of my playing career," Beckham said. "I don't see this as the end of my relationship with the league as my ambition is to be part of the ownership structure in the future."

As a player with the Galaxy, Beckham launched Major League Soccer onto the global sports stage, enhancing its profile around the world and increasing the popularity of soccer in the United States. “Seldom does an athlete redefine a sport and David not only took our franchise to another level but he took our sport to another level,” said Tim Leiweke, President and CEO of AEG (Anschutz Entertainment Group). “It has been an honor and privilege to be a part of his world, and more importantly, to have him be a part of ours.”

“When David Beckham signed with the LA Galaxy in 2007, he set out to help grow MLS and the sport of soccer in North America,” MLS Commissioner Don Garber said. “There is no doubt that MLS is far more popular and important here and abroad than it was when he arrived. David has achieved great things on and off the field during his time with the Galaxy, and he will always be an important part of our history. We look forward to his continued involvement with the LA Galaxy and the League.”
