There's no shortage of awesome activities happening in the City of Angels this June. From unique festivals to stellar concerts and much more, kick off summer at these fun events happening around L.A.
Lummis Day - June 5-7, 2015
Don't miss the 10th anniversary Lummis Day. Experience music, poetry, dance, art, theater and opera representing the rainbow of cultural traditions in Northeast Los Angeles. Best of all, the festival is completely free! This year's program will build on the Festival's multi-cultural tradition, with performances ranging from Italian opera to Mexican mariachi, Celtic to cumbia, country to jazz, middle eastern Ghawazi dancers," hip-hoppers and folkloric dancers, poets and puppets. In addition to the main event Sunday, Lummis Day will take place on three days on a variety of sites from Boyle Heights to Highland Park. 2015 Tommy Bahama Paddleboard Race & Ocean Festival - June 6, 2015
The Santa Monica Pier Paddleboard Race & Ocean Festival presented by Tommy Bahama is a full day of fun – with competitions, entertainment and activities for all ages. Come cheer on the hundreds of waterman and women who are competing or just enjoy a rum drink in the Tommy Bahama lounge or a beer in the Sierra Nevada beer garden. Now in its fifth year, the event has grown from a simple paddleboard race into a celebration of the California beach lifestyle. Last year’s races matched competitors against huge ocean waves and drew athletes from all over the U.S., Hawaii and Mexico. Explore the “Museum for a Day” featuring a large one-of-a-kind exhibition of historic surfboards, paddleboards, lifeguard equipment and skateboards. Meet surfing legends and authors of surf history books. Hula dance groups and live musicians, including the original Ska band The Untouchables will perform from the stage while spectators enjoy the races, beer garden and rum lounge, museum and a large expo of paddleboards, accessories and souvenirs. The event benefits Heal the Bay, the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium and its public marine education facility.
LA Weekly's Tacolandia - June 6, 2015
LA Weekly presents Tacolandia 2015 on June 6 at El Pueblo de Los Angeles in Downtown L.A. The third annual gourmet taco festival will feature more than 80 top taco vendors curated by the World's First Tacorazzo, Bill Esparza. All restaurants have tasty samples of their signature gourmet tacos for all to enjoy. Complete with live mariachi music, cash bars with beer, wine and cocktails, as well as awards for best tacos in various categories presented by The Vendys, Tacolandia 2015 will be LA Weekly's largest event of the year and one not to be missed.
Los Angeles Bread Festival - June 6-7, 2015
Make way as Grand Central Market hosts the first-ever Los Angeles Bread Festival on June 6-7, a free, two-day celebration of the Southern California artisan bread renaissance. Curated by Grand Central Market creative director Joseph Shuldiner, the Los Angeles Bread Festival will be an opportunity to experience the many flavors of L.A. bread through an assortment of pop-ups, workshops (including a community bread bake), demonstrations, and moderated panel discussions. Hands-on family friendly activities will include "Feel the Churn Butter Aerobics," a participatory butter-making/aerobic class, tortilla-making, sourdough starter 101 and more.
2015 Los Angeles Film Festival - June 10-18, 2015
The Los Angeles Film Festival presents the best of American and international cinema – a celebration that includes world premieres, filmmaker Q&As, live music and sing-alongs, and seminars with leading film artists. New this year are competitive sections for independent, feature-length U.S. fiction films; a diverse selection of documentary films from around the world; and a smaller round-up of exceptional international films, curated to showcase break-out global talent. From Inglewood to the Valley, LA has been an inspiration for artists to find their voice, tell their story and perfect their craft. Returning for its second year, the highly lauded LA Muse section showcases world premieres of films that capture the spirit of Los Angeles. The Festival offers mentorship for high school students with the Future Filmmakers program, including a screening of short films created by high school students. The Hollywood Fringe Festival - June 11-28, 2015
The annual Hollywood Fringe Festival is an open-access, community-derived event celebrating freedom of expression and collaboration in the performing arts community. Each June during the Hollywood Fringe, the arts infiltrate the Hollywood neighborhood: fully equipped theaters, parks, clubs, churches, restaurants and other unexpected places host hundreds of productions by local, national, and international arts companies and independent performers. Participation in the Hollywood Fringe is completely open and uncensored. This free-for-all approach underlines the festival’s mission to be a platform for artists without the barrier of a curative body. By opening the gates to anyone with a vision, the festival is able to exhibit the most diverse and cutting-edge points-of-view the world has to offer. Additionally, by creating an environment where artists must self-produce their work, the Fringe motivates its participants to cultivate a spirit of entrepreneurialism in the arts. L.A. Pride Fest - June 12-14, 2015
Every year, LA PRIDE’s Festival entertainment lineup features a diverse collection of talent ranging from Grammy Award winning singers to hip-hop heavy weights and pop divas to nostalgic classics. With LA PRIDE / Christopher Street West celebrating its 45th Anniversary of LA PRIDE this year, the Festival’s entertainment lineup is set to deliver another rocking year of performances, one that may be the most exciting performances to date. This year’s Festival highlights will include performances from singer-songwriter and pop rock sensation Kesha along with super group, Fifth Harmony and Tamar Braxton-Herbert who will all hit the festival’s Delta Air Lines main stage June 12-14, 2015! Playboy Jazz Festival - June 13-14, 2015
There are few experiences more quintessentially Los Angeles than spending a summer evening under the stars while catching a concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Enjoy a weekend of jazz music on June 13-14 complete with stunning fireworks at the annual Playboy Jazz Festival. Vans Warped Tour - June 19, 2015
Now in its 21st year, the Vans Warped Tour is established as one of America’s premier music and lifestyle festivals, breaking up-and-coming indie talent as well as showcasing major established artists since 1995. The nationally-renowned festival has become an icon for youth, punk rock and skate culture, bringing together a diverse lineup of artists, stemming from every genre. Top acts such as Motion City Soundtrack, Bebe Rexha and many more head to the Pomona Fairplex on June 19.
Knuckle & Claw Clam Bake - June 20, 2015
To kick of the first official day of summer, Silver Lake’s Knuckle & Claw will be hosting their 1st Annual Clam Bake. With grilled and boiled whole lobsters, steamers, and a raw bar serving freshly shucked oysters, Knuckle & Claw will bring a real Martha’s Vineyard celebration to the Eastside. Beer will flow, and of course there will be a live band, horseshoes, Adirondack chairs, and fire pits - extra points to those who show up in their Vineyard Vines. The event will be held in the parking lot adjacent to the restaurant, with food being served outdoors, and beer being served inside. Presale: $50 will get you a whole lobster, steamers, and oysters from the raw bar, and all the fixings, plus two beers. For all you can drink beer, tickets will cost $65. Tickets will go up $10 at the door. $5 of each ticket sold will go to Faircloth & Supply – a charity dedicated to increasing the economic empowerment of women worldwide.

BET Experience - June 25-27, 2015
For three consecutive years, BET Networks and AEG partner to bring the heat to Los Angeles when BET Experience takes over L.A. LIVE June 25 - 28, 2015. A four day event, there’s something for everyone as attendees will have the opportunity to experience a plethora of music and comedy concerts, entertaining and interactive activations at the FREE Fan Festival, "106 & PARK" tapings, seminars and various social events and celebrity appearances. The roster is already making waves as the headliners at STAPLES Center include Kevin Hart, Nicki Minaj, Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg. Keeping things hot are new additions to the STAPLES Center show lineup - Kendrick Lamar, who will be headlining with Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube, and Jay Rock and Ab-Soul. Roaring Nights at the LA Zoo - June 26, 2015
A different kind of wildlife takes over the L.A. Zoo for Roaring Nights, a summer music series featuring indie bands, full bars, and L.A.’s favorite food trucks, plus pop-up zookeeper talks and special animal encounters. Art Beyond the Glass IV - June 28, 2015
Now in its fourth year, Art Beyond the Glass features dozens of L.A.’s top bartenders mixing cocktails and showcasing their artistry, from painting to photography, live music, DJs and more. Art Beyond the Glass IV is taking place on Sunday, June 28 at General Lee's, a stunning two-level venue located in the heart of Chinatown. Live performances will take place on the historic Central Plaza outside General Lee’s, with the famous Seven Star Cavern Wishing Well as the backdrop. ABTG IV is raising funds for KCRW, widely regarded as one of the world’s most influential independent music radio stations. Proceeds from ABTG IV will go to KCRW’s Capital Campaign to build a 35,000 square-foot Media Center, which will house KCRW in its entirety and become a public gathering place for the city of Los Angeles.
