LA Tourism Receptive Reception hosted by the Original Farmers Market

INTERNATIONAL

The LA Tourism International Marketing team hosted four familiarization trips (FAMS) to Los Angeles between June 1 and June 30 from Brazil (1), Australia (1) and Japan (2).

Receptive Reception, June 5. Los Angeles. The LA Tourism International Marketing team coordinated a local LA Receptive Reception hosted by the Original Farmers Market. Over 80 tour operators and LA Tourism International and Sales team staff attended the networking event that included a treasure hunt showcasing Farmers Market stores and restaurants, door prizes, food and beverages.

International Pow Wow (IPW), June 8-12. Las Vegas. More than 5,500 delegates from 70 countries attended IPW. LA Tourism’s International Marketing team met with more than 200 scheduled one-on-one buyer appointments from international and domestic markets, and attended networking sessions.

Cruise3Sixty, June 21-22. Vancouver, Canada. Cruise3Sixty, the only official cruise conference of the cruise line industry, is presented by Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA). LA Tourism’s International Marketing team shared a booth with San Pedro Waterfront and promoted the Waterfront area and LA environs. The trade show was attended by 1,500 cruise travel agents, 46% of them from Canada.

SALES & CLIENT SERVICES

LA Tourism's Sales team and partners were kept busy with appointments at AIBTM in Chicago, including 80 meetings held to discuss new prospects for LA.

AIBTM Tradeshow, June 11-13. Chicago. The LA Tourism Sales team had a strong presence at the The Americas Incentive, Business Travel & Meetings Exhibition (AIBTM) Tradeshow in Chicago, June 11-13, representing our members, partners and the LA destination. AIBTM is a leading global exhibition for the U.S. meetings and events industry, and their tradeshow had 700 exhibitors. Our Sales team had 80 one-on-one appointments with qualified buyers interested in Los Angeles, and made four destination presentations to 50 buyers. We were joined by LA Tourism partners AEG/L.A. LIVE and Universal Studios Hollywood.

E3 Expo Citywide Convention, June 11-14. Los Angeles. The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), the world’s premier trade show for video games and related products at the Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC), was the largest citywide convention of the year in LA. E3 2013 drew approximately 48,200 industry professionals who came to experience groundbreaking new technologies and never-before-seen products for computers, video game consoles, handheld systems, mobile and social, and the Internet. The show generated an estimated 28,000 hotel room nights in 33 LA area hotels and $40 million in economic impact for LA’s economy. Last year, LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and LA Tourism secured the deal with the Entertainment Software Association, owner of E3, to host the trade show in Los Angeles in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
 
Association of Chicagoland’s Honor Gala Awards Dinner, June 18, 2013. Chicago. LA Tourism participated in the Association of Chicagoland’s Honor Gala Awards Dinner at the Navy Pier Ballroom in Chicago, which was attended by about 2,000 association industry executives and hospitality professionals.

Paramount Pictures screening of "World War Z", June 21, 2013. LA Tourism co-hosted a successful screening event for the Los Angeles film industry, showing "World War Z" starring Brad Pitt.

ACN Citywide Convention, June 21-23, 2013. Los Angeles. ACN Inc.’s International Training Event was packed with training sessions, speakers, recognitions and promotions for ACN's top producers from the first half of 2013. The conference was attended by about 15,000 people and generated almost 7,000 hotel room nights throughout downtown Los Angeles and as far out as North Hollywood.

GBTA Convention & Exposition 2013, Aug. 4-7. San Diego Convention Center, San Diego. Los Angeles is the host city for Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) in 2014. LA Tourism will exhibit at this year’s GBTA Convention and host the closing reception, The Business Travel Event of the Year ®, which is already 91% sold out. GBTA expects 1,500 business travel buyers who influence corporate travel buyers on specific suppliers they choose. In the past, exhibitors have found between one and six or more new suppliers at the GBTA and have generated between six and more than 50 new leads including Fortune 100 business travel buyers and meeting planners. U.S. Travel Association’s International Pow Wow, June 8-12. Las Vegas. As part of LA Tourism’s work in representing Los Angeles at the International Pow Wow Travel Trade Show in Las Vegas, the Communications Team held a press conference attended by approximately 200 international media. LA Tourism’s President & CEO Ernest Wooden, Jr. led the presentation and was joined by Roger Dow, President & CEO of the U.S. Travel Association, and Thomas See, Vice President of Sales at Universal Studios Hollywood. There was a surprise visit from Universal Studios Hollywood’s Transformers™ characters OPTIMUS PRIME and MEGATRON. LA Tourism also participated in the Media Marketplace to promote LA Tourism members and the destination.

Tom Bradley International Terminal Preview Event – LA Tourism’s Communications Team worked on the media sneak preview event of the new Tom Bradley International Terminal at LAX Airport, set to open later this year. During the event, the Communications Team supported the LAX and Westfield PR teams by conducting media outreach, assisted in the press conference, helped to facilitate Q&A breakout sessions for media, and escorted media during the red carpet and black-tie gala event. In addition, LA Tourism monitored news coverage and provided a strong social media presence during the event.

Glamour Brazil – The Communications Team arranged filming locations for visiting journalists from Glamour Brazil magazine for a special LA fashion feature that will include several LA neighborhoods in the August issue. The magazine has a monthly print circulation of 103,576 and nearly 1.7 million unique monthly online visitors.

Media FAMS – The Communications Team has been working hard to keep the LA destination and LA Tourism members in the news, organizing FAM trips for domestic and international media on assignment for a broad range of stories. FAMs since June 1 include five groups of journalists from the US, three from Australia, one from Brazil, one from Croatia, one from Thailand and two from Germany, including an Air Berlin FAM.
