TRADESHOWS, SALES MISSIONS, TRAVEL TRADE FAMS & OTHER WORK JULY 1 - JULY 31, 2013

INTERNATIONAL

Visit California UK & Ireland Training Week, July 1-5. UK & Ireland. The European LATCB office took part in the Visit California UK & Ireland Training Week, together with a delegation of 12 California destinations and attractions, including Universal Studios Hollywood. Presentations showcased Los Angeles to over 300 travel agents in Glasgow, Newcastle, Dublin and London, highlighting new and existing products and experiences. British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Air New Zealand were also key partners. 

Visit California Canada Sales Mission, July 8-12. Canada. The LATCB International Team took part in this sales mission visiting Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver to meet with over 650 leading tour operators, travel agents, airlines and local industry members and promote visitation to Los Angeles. The five-day sales mission included presentations about Los Angeles’ attractions, hotels and activities, training sessions, a market update and business-to-business appointments.

Mary Kay Incentive Group, July 27-30. Los Angeles. LATCB’s China office worked with a China-based receptive tour operator and welcomed a Mary Kay incentive group of 160 to Los Angeles for training and vacation July 27-30 on their way to their corporate headquarters. The Mary Kay group visited Universal Studios Hollywood, Hollywood, Getty Center, Santa Monica and Beverly Hills. 

Training Sessions. July 30-Aug. 2. Shanghai. The LATCB Shanghai Office conducted two training sessions, reaching more than 100 China-based tour operators and hotel booking agents. One training primarily focused on selling LATCB's TMD hotels with various new attractions and another was on “What’s New in Los Angeles” Destination Training.

 

SALES & CLIENT SERVICES

FAM TRIP TO MEETING & EVENT VENUES IN SAN FERNANDO VALLEY  

The Hotel Sales team hosted clients on July 27 and 28 for a familiarization (FAM) trip to several locations in the San Fernando Valley. The meeting planners represented corporate, independent, and third-party planners with interest in Los Angeles, particularly in the San Fernando Valley and Neighboring Regions. Collectively they plan hundreds of meetings of all sizes and were impressed by all that the Valley has to offer. The FAM included site visits to three of LATCB’s Valley member partner hotels – the Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel & Convention Center, The Beverly Garland in North Hollywood, and the BLVD. Hotel and Spa in Studio City. The clients also toured some of the attractions and restaurants located in the Valley that have unique meeting and event venues, including Warner Brothers Studios and Universal Citywalk, the Castaway Restaurant in Burbank, Descanso Garden venues and the Descanso Café (a Patina Group restaurant), Katsuya Glendale (an SBE restaurant), and the Rose Bowl Pasadena and VIP suites. The meeting planners were very impressed with the incredible variety, number and uniqueness of the Valley venues and showed a keen interest in the Valley as an option for future meetings and events. 

COMMUNICATIONS/MEDIA

NATIONAL SPANISH LANGUAGE TV NEWS SEGMENT ABOUT DINELA RESTAURANT WEEK 

dineLA Restaurant Week was featured on Lánzate, a national Spanish-language morning talk show broadcast by UniMás/Univision TV. LATCB joined the show hosts as well as Jimmy Shaw, owner and chef of Mexican Restaurant ¡Lotería! Grill. The show reaches an incredible audience of 54 million viewers. 

 MEDIA FAMS 

The Communications Team has been working hard to keep the LA destination and LATCB members in the news, organizing FAM trips for domestic and international media on assignment for a broad range of stories. FAM trips to the LA region between July 1 and July 31 included four from the United States, two from Canada, one from New Zealand, and one from the United Kingdom. 

TV NEWS SEGMENT ABOUT NEW HOTEL DEVELOPMENT IN LA 

 KTTV-FOX TV (Ch. 11) aired a news piece on July 25 about the strong growth in new hotels under construction or in planning stages in Los Angeles. The piece included an interview with LATCB highlighting the huge economic impact that tourism has on LA, and the crucial role that hotels play in growing visitation.
