Gay Los Angeles: Romantic Dining
Updated on November 18, 2014
It's time for your romantic L.A. getaway - you’ve got the roses, you’ve got the chocolates, you’ve got your lucky pair of undies on - now it’s time to figure out your dinner plans. We’ve put together a special evening just for you, starting with champagne and ending with cupcakes. Anything that comes in between (or after) is just a bonus.
Champagne Wishes and Caviar Dreams
Nothing sets the romantic tone for an evening like a sparkling, golden glass of champagne. Start your night out with a bubbly toast at Petrossian, the West Hollywood caviar boutique and restaurant. Whet your appetite with a small amuse bouche of their popular Classic Transmontanus caviar, using a traditional mother-of-pearl spoon to place a delicate scoop of the briny, pearlescent black delicacy onto a spongy blini. Then garnish it to taste with dill crème fraîche and hard-boiled egg yolk. This pre-evening snack is surprisingly affordable, and shows your better half that you’re only willing to give them the best. It’ll be hard to resist ordering other gourmet specialties from 27-year-old French chef Benjamin Bailly’s menu, like foie gras crème brûlée with fig marmalade, and creamy borscht drizzled with aged balsamic.

Do It Comme Ça
Things are better when they’re French - poodles, fries, kissing - so why not do dinner French-style at David Myers’ brasserie Comme Ça? Those in the mood for an aphrodisiac can order à la carte oysters. Appetizers include beet gazpacho with mustard seed and a rye crisp, and diver scallop tartare in pistou with asparagus and lemon. For a main course, there’s pistachio-crusted opah with sweet potato puree and dandelion greens, braised beef short rib with brown butter carrot purée and egg yolk ravioli with ratatouille, spinach and romesco sauce. Desserts include caramelized brioche with lemon preserve and lavender ice cream, and a chocolate Charlotte with traditional crème anglaise and raspberry-rose ice cream. But don’t fill up on sugar at this restaurant, because your evening’s about to get a little sweeter.
Top Your Evening Off With Sprinkles
Chocolates are so overdone. Why not get your special someone a box of cupcakes from L.A.’s trendiest bakery instead? Sprinkles’ XOX box comes with a dozen signature red velvet, chocolate marshmallow, vanilla and dark chocolate cupcakes, all topped with XOX decos and sugar hearts—you know, just in case not enough people already think you’re sickeningly sweet together. Besides, it’s good to carbo-load a little before the main event of the evening.
