Chinese New Year, aka Spring Festival, is the most significant holiday of the year in China, as well as in countries and cities around the world with a large Chinese population. One of the most diverse cities in the world, Los Angeles celebrates the Lunar New Year with colorful parades, family-friendly festivals, hotel packages, and shopping specials. The Lunar New Year is not only a time for family gatherings, but is also when people honor ancestors and give thanks for good fortune. Sumptuous meals with “lucky” dishes, red envelopes (hongbao) and firecrackers are all traditional parts of the festivities.

LUNAR NEW YEAR - UNIVERSAL STUDIOS HOLLYWOOD (FEB. 2-17, 2019)
Universal Studios Hollywood celebrates the Year of the Pig with Hello Kitty, Kung Fu Panda masters Po and Tigress, and Megatron, the Mandarin-speaking leader of the Decepticons. Taking place from Saturday, February 2 to Sunday, February 17 the Lunar New Year festivities are included with admission and will be located at Universal Plaza in the heart of the theme park. The spectacular decor includes traditional red Chinese lanterns and stunning plum blossom Wishing Trees.
The centerpiece of the festivities will feature DreamWorks’ Kung Fu Panda Jade Palace Performance Stage and the exciting Dragon Warrior Training Show, based on the beloved Kung Fu Panda franchise. The immersive event will also feature animators teaching guests how to draw Po and the Furious Five as keepsakes. Mr. Ping’s Noodle Shop is back to serve up delicious culturally-themed food such as Po’s Dumplings, Dragon Warrior Bao, Oogway Eggrolls and Secret Ingredient Stir Fry Noodles. Mr. Ping himself will interact with guests and pose for memorable souvenir photos.
New for this year, global pop icon Hello Kitty joins the celebration wearing her signature red bow and special Lunar New Year attire. Lunar New Year Festival - USC Pacific Asia Museum (Feb. 3, 2019)
Founded in 1971, the USC Pacific Asia Museum is one of the few U.S. institutions dedicated to the arts and culture of Asia and the Pacific Islands. On Sunday, February 3, the museum presents the annual Lunar New Year Festival, featuring a Lion Dance and martial arts presentation from the Northern Shaolin Kung Fu Association; classical musicians from the Pasadena Symphony; and a delegation from the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music performing a variety of traditional and contemporary music and dance pieces.
