An amazing year of Los Angeles sports events includes the 102nd Rose Bowl Game, the second annual Air + Style Los Angeles, Olympic Marathon Trials, LA Marathon, summertime volleyball and basketball tournaments, and the annual showdown between UCLA and USC.
102nd ROSE BOWL GAME (JAN. 1, 2016)
The 102nd Rose Bowl Game is taking place on Jan. 1, 2016 at Rose Bowl Stadium. A highlight of the annual Tournament of Roses in Pasadena, the game will feature the Pac-12 Conference champions, Stanford Cardinal against the Big Ten Conference West Division champions, Iowa State Hawkeyes. The game is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. PST with kickoff at 2:10 p.m. PST.
Known as the “The Granddaddy of Them All” for being the oldest bowl game, the Rose Bowl Game was first played in 1902, and has been played annually since 1916. Over the years, this college football classic has showcased 19 Heisman Trophy winners, produced 29 national champions, featured 208 consensus All-Americans and honored 113 college football legends by inducting them into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame.
U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials (Feb. 13, 2016)
On Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, Los Angeles will host the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for the Men’s and Women’s Marathon. “The U.S. Olympic Committee is pleased to be returning to Los Angeles with this amazing event,” said USOC CEO Scott Blackmun. “As the host of the 1932 and 1984 Olympic Games, Los Angeles has a tremendous Olympic legacy and L.A.’s status as a global center of sport and culture make it an exceptional host for the Olympic Trials.” The looped course begins and ends near STAPLES Center at L.A. LIVE in Downtown L.A. Runners will pass landmarks such as the Los Angeles Convention Center, USC, Exposition Park and Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
SKECHERS PERFORMANCE L.A. MARATHON (FEB. 14, 2016)
On Sunday, Feb. 14, thousands of runners will navigate their way from Downtown L.A. to Santa Monica in the 31st annual Skechers Performance Los Angeles Marathon. The 2016 L.A. Marathon will be the seventh running of the iconic “Stadium to the Sea” course, which takes runners from Dodger Stadium to the Pacific Ocean. Runners will pass many of L.A.’s world‐famous landmarks along the way, including Walt Disney Concert Hall, TCL Chinese Theatre, the Sunset Strip, Rodeo Drive and the Santa Monica Pier.
AIR + STYLE LOS ANGELES (Feb. 20-21, 2016)
The second annual Air + Style Los Angeles is taking place at historic Exposition Park in Downtown L.A. on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 20-21. Curated by Olympic champion Shaun White, Air + Style Los Angeles will feature the world’s most elite winter athletes competing alongside some of the largest and most current music artists. This international event is being held in Beijing, China and Innsbruck, Austria and will culminate with a grand finale outside the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The main attraction is a “Big Air” snowboarding competition taking place atop a 16-story ski jump. This family-friendly event combines competition, giant art displays, fashion, technology and live music performances by J. Cole, Incubus, Haim, Big Grams and many more. Ticketholders will have the opportunity to learn how to snowboard like Olympic-level athletes, play music, interact with the latest technology, create art and sample foods from around the world. Copa América Centenario - Rose Bowl Stadium (June 4, 7, 9, 2016)
The Copa América Centenario (aka the 2016 Centennial Copa America) is an international men's soccer tournament taking place in the United States June 3-26, 2016. The competition is a celebration of the centenary of CONMEBOL (the South American soccer confederation) and Copa América, and is the first Copa América hosted outside of South America. The expanded field of 16 teams (increased from the usual 12) features ten teams from CONMEBOL and six teams from CONCACAF, the soccer confederation for North America, Central America and the Caribbean. Rose Bowl Stadium is hosting matches for Group A (June 7), Group B (featuring Brazil, June 4) and Group C (Mexico, June 9).
NIKE 3ON3 (Aug. 5-7, 2016)
On Aug. 5-7, 2016 the Nike Basketball 3ON3 Tournament returns to the streets of L.A. LIVE in Downtown L.A. Nike 3ON3 features three fun-filled days of basketball, entertainment, food, giveaways and more. All skill levels are invited to compete in the tournament, from “ballers” in the Adult Elite Division to Youth, Wheelchair and Special Olympics divisions. Now in its eighth year, the Nike Basketball 3ON3 Tournament has grown to become the largest three-on-three basketball tournament in California, with more than 1,500 teams, 5,000 players and 40,000 spectators.

DODGERS ALL-ACCESS (AUG. 11, 2016)
For fans of the Los Angeles Dodgers, it doesn’t get any better than the third annual Dodgers All-Access, taking place at Dodger Stadium on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016. Dodgers All-Access is a fun, informative and unique networking opportunity for diehard fans and newbies alike. The Dodgers All-Access Experience includes batting practice in the Dodgers batting cage, pitching in the bullpen, buffet dinner on the field, special tours and photo opportunities with legendary players at iconic spots in the stadium. Manhattan Beach Open (August 2016)
Heading into its 57th year, the Manhattan Beach Open is the longest running, continuous tournament in beach volleyball. Every summer, the most talented men and women in the sport gather at the birthplace of beach volleyball to compete for a share of the prize purse and to have their names enshrined on the historic Manhattan Beach Pier. An official stop of the AVP tour, the Manhattan Beach Open will feature a full festival village, MBO Legend’s match, kid’s clinic, athlete signings, movie night, interactive games and the annual MBO Walk of Fame Pier Ceremony. The Manhattan Beach Open is a free event and takes place just south of the pier. The August 2016 dates are TBA.
BREEDERS’ CUP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS - SANTA ANITA PARK (Nov. 4-5, 2016)
The Breeders' Cup World Championships return to Santa Anita Park on Nov. 4-5, 2016. Since its inception in 1984, the Breeders' Cup is now considered one of the world’s top events in Thoroughbred racing, and draws the best equine athletes from around the world for two of the most exciting days in the sport. This marks the ninth time that Santa Anita Park will host the Breeders’ Cup. Regarded as one of the most iconic tracks in the country, Santa Anita Park, which opened on Dec. 25, 1934, recently underwent $35 million in capital improvements to areas such as the Club House Box Seat Area, Chandelier Room, Turf Terrace, Eddie Logan Suite and private suites atop the Grandstand Club House Box Seat Area.
UCLA VS. USC - Rose Bowl Stadium (Nov. 19, 2016)
One of the most storied rivalries in all of college sports is renewed once again when the UCLA Bruins face off against the USC Trojans on Saturday, Nov. 19 at Rose Bowl Stadium. On even numbered years, Rose Bowl Stadium hosts the rivalry game between the Bruins and the Trojans, alternating with the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The winner of the UCLA-USC game takes possession of the Victory Bell, a 295-pound brass bell from a Southern Pacific railroad locomotive. After losing to their crosstown rivals three years in a row, the Trojans beat the Bruins in 2015 and currently hold the trophy. USC leads the overall series, 45–31–7.
