The Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board is making it easier than ever to discover L.A. without a car. Car Free L.A. features a series of self-guided "car free" itineraries that offer a new, eco-friendly way to experience the best of L.A. via foot, bike and Metro. Whether it’s culture, coastal attractions, global cuisine, music or architecture, you can see it all car free. 

On Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, join fellow Car Free enthusiasts around the globe and celebrate World Car Free Day. In July, LATCB’s in-market rep, Imaginadora conducted several Los Angeles product training sessions and events for major Brazilian tour operators including MMT Gapnet, CVC and Nascimento Tourismo.  A total of 145 tour operator staff completed the Los Angeles destination training in the month of July.  Brazil is currently one of the destination’s fastest growing visitor markets and, Los Angeles looks forward to welcoming more Brazilian visitors as tour operator partners add more L.A. product to their online and print brochures.

 • Los Angeles ranked 7th place among the Top 25 Markets with an Occupancy rate of 87.1% (a historical monthly high), up +2.2% compared to the same period last year (85.2%). 

 • Los Angeles ADR was $154.40 (a historical monthly high) and ranked 7th among the Top 25 Markets, up +10.0% compared to the same period last year ($140.34).

 • Los Angeles RevPAR was $134.41 (a historical monthly high) and ranked 7th among the Top 25 Markets, up +12.5% compared to the same period last year ($119.51).

• Rooms nights sold were 2.63 million countywide (a historical monthly high), reflecting a +3.3% increase over July 2013 (2.55 million room nights). 

• The LAX area (93.2%) and Santa Monica/Marina Del Rey (90.0%) both reported the highest Occupancy rate for the month.  

•  Downtown L.A. (+21.3%) and the LAX area (+13.9%) reported the largest YOY RevPAR growth.

Tom Mullen has been named LATCB’S Chief Administrative Officer, overseeing all operating functions including finance, human resources, member and visitor relations, as well as responsibility for new business development.

A seasoned travel and retail executive, Mullen joined LATCB in June, 2013, as Senior Vice President, Strategic Alliances.  Prior to that, he spent more than 20 years with American Express Travel Related Services, Inc. in a variety of positions including Vice President, Sales and Account Development, Merchant Services America, where he managed more than 1,600 merchant relationships throughout Los Angeles, Northern California and Hawaii; General Manager, Travel Services, Hawaii, Guam and Micronesia; Director, Merchant Services, Hawaii; Manager, Business Development and Strategic Planning; Manager, Finance & Administration; and Financial Analyst.

Mullen has also been very involved with the Los Angeles travel industry, serving two terms as Chairman of LATCB’s Board of Directors from 2009-2013.
