Jan. 10: Mary Poppins Sing Along - El Capitan Theatre
From Jan. 10 to Jan. 20, 2014, the El Capitan Theatre presents the Mary Poppins Sing-Along, an interactive movie experience featuring the beloved Walt Disney classic with words to the songs on the movie screen. The special opening night event on Friday, Jan. 10 features a costume contest and surprises. The movie starts at 7:45 p.m. General Admission tickets are just $10 and include popcorn.
Jan. 11: Slider Eating Competition - Dog Haus Biergarten
Dog Haus Biergarten kicks off Pasadena's third annual Cheeseburger Week (Jan. 12-17) with the inaugural Slider Eating Competition on Saturday, Jan. 11 from noon to 4 p.m. Twelve competitors were selected through qualifying rounds held during the four weeks leading up to the competition. They'll face off to see who can eat the most Dog Haus sliders in six minutes. Over $1,000 in food credit and prizes will be awarded in total to the top three participants. Prior to the competition at 3 p.m., attendees can enjoy samples, swag, beer from local breweries, a DJ, and activities like a life-size Jenga.
Jan. 11: Merging Views - Giant Robot
Merging Views is the first exhibition opening at Giant Robot 2 in 2014, featuring great artists from Los Angeles and beyond: Godeleine de Rosamel, Wayne Johnson, Kwanchai Moriya, Stasia Burrington, Dan McCarthy, and Dan-ah Kim. The opening reception for Merging Views is taking place on Saturday, Jan. 11 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. The exhibition runs through Jan. 29.
JAN. 11: LA DERBY DOLLS: BABY DOLL BRAWL
On Saturday, Jan. 11, the LA Derby Dolls present the Baby Doll Brawl, featuring up and coming skater teams Punky Bruisers and Poundgarden battling it out at the Doll Factory in Historic Filipinotown. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the event starts at 8 p.m. A $20 General Admission ticket gets you into the "standing-room" only (non-pink) sections of the Doll Factory and outside restrooms. JAN. 12: DRAMARAMA - WHISKY A GO GO
The legendary Whisky A Go Go continues the month-long celebration of its 50th anniversary with a performance by Dramarama on Sunday, Jan. 12. The band’s current lineup includes founding members, singer/songwriter John Easdale, lead and rhythm guitarist Peter Wood, and lead guitarist Mark Englert (Mr. "E" Boy), along with LA-based musicians Tony Snow on drums and Mike Davis on bass.
