Feb. 7: Zappa Plays Zappa - The Canyon Club
Zappa Plays Zappa is a six-piece ensemble devoted to re-imagining the works of Frank Zappa with full-fledged, fleshed-out precision. Led by Frank’s eldest son Dweezil, the musicians all have their own unique qualifications, but it's their dedication to preserving and performing the detailed music of Frank Zappa that unites them and thrills audiences across the globe. In honor of the 40th anniversary of the classic Roxy & Elsewhere, Zappa Plays Zappa will perform the entire album in sequence at The Canyon Club on Friday, Feb. 7. Ticket options for this concert include General Admission, Seated with Dinner, and Meet & Greet + Show. The pre-show Meet & Greet begins at 4:00pm. Feb. 8: Family Day at the Movies feat. The LEGO® Movie - Regal L.A. LIVE
On Saturday, Feb. 8, Regal L.A. LIVE is hosting the first Family Day at the Movies of the year during the opening weekend of The LEGO® Movie. Free activities in the main lobby throughout the day include the Prize Wheel, face painting, balloon art, LEGO® fun, a photo booth and more. Groups of 10 or more can save $2 per ticket, get discount concession packages, and have a chance for free tickets to LEGOLAND® California Resort to check out The LEGO® Movie Experience, opening Feb. 20. Feb. 8-9: The Beatles Invasion 50-Year Celebration - The Paley Center
On Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 8-9, The Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Beatles arriving in New York with screenings of two programs that are must-sees for Beatles fans. Experience their debut as it happened, by watching the complete Ed Sullivan Show from Feb. 9, 1964, including commercials. Then see the behind-the-scenes antics and the citywide hysteria captured in What’s Happening! The Beatles in the U.S.A., a cinema vérité documentary from the Maysles brothers. You may have seen clips of these shows on TV or YouTube, but this weekend, you can experience the Fab Four like never before, on the big screen. These screenings are free and open to the public.
Feb. 8: The Edwardian Ball - Fonda Theatre
The Edwardian Ball is an elegant and whimsical celebration of art, music, theatre, fashion, technology, circus, and the beloved creations of the late author, Edward Gorey. The 14th annual Edwardian Ball is taking place at the Fonda Theatre from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8. The multimedia extravaganza features live music, stage shows, DJs, ballroom dancing, fine art galleries, a vendor bazaar, absinthe cocktails, steam machinery, parlour games, sideshows, and more. All ages are invited to experience this darkly humorous and elegant event.
Feb. 9: Herbie Hancock, Christian McBride, Dianne Reeves
On Sunday, Feb. 9, Walt Disney Concert Hall continues its tenth anniversary celebration with this incredible gathering of all three Creative Chairs for Jazz: Herbie Hancock, Christian McBride, and Dianne Reeves. This one-of-a-kind night promises improvisational fireworks and sublime music making. The three legends will participate in a talkback session immediately following the concert.
