Read on for highlights of an exciting month of events in L.A.
Sept. 5-11: “Levitated Mass” - Landmark Nuart Theatre
Levitated Mass is a documentary about the two-story tall, 340-ton granite megalith that was moved from a quarry in Riverside and traveled over 105 miles to its permanent home at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). The documentary is playing at the Landmark Nuart Theatre in West L.A. from Sept. 5-11.
The monumental installation, Levitated Mass, is the brainchild of artist Michael Heizer, who first conceived the artwork in 1969 but wasn’t able to make his idea a reality until he discovered an appropriate boulder decades later. Doug Pray's documentary follows the boulder's historic journey, which attracted international media attention and challenged the imagination of thousands of spectators over 10 nights as it slowly crawled through the streets of Los Angeles on a custom-built, 206-wheeled tractor trailer.
