Bob Santelli's Los Angeles
Bob Santelli, Executive Director of the GRAMMY Museum and noted blues and rock historian, shares his favorite places to catch a concert, cheer on the home team and ride the waves.
Amoeba Music
It is, quite simply, the best record store in America. You can find the most obscure CDs here, as well as an incredibly large selection of vinyl. I can spend an entire Sunday afternoon thumbing through row after row of discs and never walk away without music to add to my collection.
GRAMMY Museum at L.A. LIVE
The Clive Davis Theater is my favorite part of the GRAMMY Museum. Not only is it an intimate, state-of-the-art music venue — the best in L.A .— but it’s here where we produce our “Evening With…” series. Imagine “Inside The Actor’s Studio” meets “MTV Unplugged” — that’s what “An Evening With…” is all about. Everyone from Lady Gaga to Ringo Starr has performed here.
Malibu - Surfrider Beach
Although I don’t always have the time to catch a few waves, when I do, I make it to Malibu, one of the great surfing spots in southern California. For longboarders like me, the waves break just right for long, fun rides.
I’m as big a baseball fan as I am a college football fan, so I shoot for a dozen Dodger games each spring and summer in order to quench my love of the game. Incredibly, Dodger Stadium, built in 1962, is the third oldest major league ballpark, behind Wrigley Field and Fenway Park.
L.A. LIVE
You can’t go wrong at L.A. LIVE. Professional sports? It has the Lakers, Clippers, Sparks, and Kings. Award shows? How about the GRAMMYS, the Emmys and so many more. Clubs? Concerts? Restaurants? It’s enough to fill out a weekend a couple of times a month.
